Blog Comments

The 3 blogs that I visited were The Honolulu Advertiser's The Daily Dish, Entertainment Weekly's Popwatch, and PerezHilton.com.

Most of the blogs' comments were opinions or shared experiences in response to the topic matter of the post (especially if the blog owner asks a question intending for viewers to respond). A lot of blogs had people commenting in order to share their experience or memory of the topic posted. For example one of Popwatch's posts was "Happy Birthday, Robyn Lively" and it included part of the movie, Teen Witch, and a lot of people commented about watching this movie when they were younger and the memories this post brought back. One of the people commenting, Cynthia, talked about how she used to watch this movie so much that it drove her mom crazy and I can definitely relate to this because it was one of my favorite movies when I was younger and I used to watch it almost every day and it also made my mom go nuts(this is the blog and post that I decided to comment on).

If the topic matter was controversial, I noticed that there can be heated debates within the comments by viewers. Viewers will comment on other viewers' comments if they agreed or disagreed with what that person had to say. I noticed that in these cases, comments can get mean and some viewers personally attack other viewers based on their comments on the topic matter (especially when it came to celebrity gossip in Perez Hilton's blog).

After seeing the types of comments people post on blogs, I believe that, for the most part, people comment on blogs to voice their opinions on that subject matter. I think that the purpose of commenting is to talk and connect with other people about shared interests (the blog topic).

Hi Jaime,

I must agree with you about why people comment on blogs. People want to make connections with others on a shared interest/topic. Another reason why people leave comments on blogs is to voice their opinions. It gives people a chance to say what they feel. I saw comments on blogs that weren't positive, too. These blogs encouraged it, though. Usually the topics were controversial in nature.
